Regardless of what you celebrate, now that holiday season is in full swing you’re bound to have way more items to check off of your To Do List than you’ve ever had before and way more events to attend than you’re typically used to – meaning, of course, that you’re suddenly in need of various holiday outfits for yourself in addition to gifts for other people. There’s a reason that they call Black Friday to New Year’s the most wonderful – and expensive – time of the year!
In the age of Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, it’s difficult to get away with wearing the same outfit multiple times to your various social gatherings if you’re planning on posting a picture to document the event. It’s a struggle that every fashion savvy girl knows and loves (read: hates), especially if you’re in or fresh out of college and ballin’ on a budget like I am. It’s part of the reason why I try to be so stingy when buying clothes for myself, and another part is that, this time of year, I prefer to spoil my friends with presents instead!
Now that I’m an adult and have way more holiday events to attend than I ever did in the past four years, I realized that I’d have to find a way to fit a few new clothing items into my budget and wardrobe before Christmas (so not as presents, unfortunately) without breaking my gift-giving bank. It’s why I’ve teamed up with Swap.com, one of the largest online consignment and thrift stores, to show you how to get the most bang for your buck and score some amazing finds for a killer steal!
I’ve never used an online consignment website before and I was a little hesitant about the idea, but the website was so user-friendly that I had racked up quite the shopping cart within the first half hour of browsing around. The listings not only include front and back photos of the items, but they also list out details such as designer, material, color, season, and condition so you know exactly what you’re getting! I was able to find items on their website from Ann Taylor, Express, J. Crew, BCBG, Loft, Aldo, Michael Kors, The Limited, Calvin Klein, and more using their comprehensive search tool that allows your to filter their thousands of items by brand, season, size, color, and even inseam.
With prices that even your local consignment shop couldn’t beat, and frequent sales and coupon codes that allow you to stack your savings, you know you’re always getting the best deal on quality clothing that will bolster your wardrobe for every season! I was able to purchase two blazers, two skirts, two blouses, one vest, and one pair of heeled flats for just $65 after a 40% coupon! All of the items came to me in new or like-new condition, with some of them with the tags still on them!
Swap.com has even provided a special coupon code for my readers to receive 40% off at checkout, and it’s valid through December 31st! Just enter code CPC40 at checkout to receive your discount!
But now on to what I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for, the outfits!
For Brunch with your Girlfriends
Brunch. We all love it, we all look forward to it, we all know it’s going to happen at some point during the holiday season (and hopefully more than once!), so even if you and your girlfriends are the type to roll out of bed and head down to your favorite diner – and I mean no shame at all, it’s one of my own favorite ways to brunch – sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone and getting a little dressed up isn’t a bad thing at all!
When I was browsing through the skirts on Swap.com I came across what I immediately recognized as J. Crews paper bag skirt ($4.50) in both my size and the exact color I was looking for, so of course it was one of the first things that made it into my cart! I paired it with a flowy trench jacket and red jersey shirt that I purchased back in February, as well as my favorite over-the-knee boots, to complete the preppy vibe I was going for and make the perfect brunch outfit.
For Present Shopping
I personally love to get a little more dressed up than normal when I go to the mall to go shopping! It makes me feel amazing and confident as I’m walking through the stores or doing any sort of window shopping as I stroll around, and I know that no matter what I try on in a dressing room I’ll still look great when I return to my normal outfit.
I decided to dress up the same maroon vest ($6.50) from Christmas tree shopping by adding it to one of my all-time favorite outfits: my floral bell-sleeved dress and black suede over-the-knee boots! The dress itself is flowy and comfortable while the long sleeves and high-cut boots ensure that I’m nice and cozy even as I stroll around my outdoor mall. And since I love to layer whenever I can, the vest is the perfect match to the maroon flowers of the dress and adds an extra layer of warmth!
For a Holiday Party with Your Friends
Depending on where you are and how fancy you like to be, a holiday party with friends can be anywhere from an upscale event to a casual get together. But knowing most 20-somethings, opting for a casual-chic outfit in on-trend navy will be shirt to make you the talk of the party!
I paired the navy J. Crew skirt ($6.50) I purchased on Swap.com with an off the shoulder navy sweater that my sister had recently purchased from LOFT to create this chic look perfect for any holiday occasion! I also purchased the Aldo navy heeled pumps ($17.00) from Swap.com to complete the monochrome style I was going for and rounded the outfit off with on-trend gold accessories for a bit of holiday flair.
For Your Office Holiday Party
While your office holiday party is indeed a holiday party, it’s important to remember that you’re still at work and you’re still representing your personal brand at all work events, so keeping it classy and professional is an absolute must! Your outfit for this event will be no different.

A good rule of thumb for these events is to look at what your general dress code is and dress to a similar level of professionalism, but add a flair of your own personal style or trend that you may not be able to wear on a normal basis. For instance, I work in a business casual environment, so the wine colored dress pants paired with the cream blouse is an outfit you can regularly see me wearing around the office. I paired both with a KASPER silvery metallic tweed blazer ($6.50) I purchased from Swap.com and metallic copper heels that I would never wear to the workplace but would totally wear to a party. The heels dress up the outfit to office party worthy while still looking classy and on-trend!
For New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve is all about dancing away your stresses and anxiety from the previous year and getting hyped for all of the wonderful opportunities you’ll have during the upcoming year, which means looking trendy and being comfortable, obviously! The last thing you want is to not be able to dance or enjoy yourself because you’re freezing or in pain due to what you’re waiting!
For this look I paired the same KASPER metallic tweed blazer ($6.50) with a black romper I’ve had as a staple in my closet for ages. The blazer dresses up the romper and creates a chic look that is both comfortable and is sure to make you stand out from the crowd! I rounded off the look with a pair of sling back black pumps that have a short, chunky heel, which keeps this look on trend without sacrificing comfort.
