It’s that time of the month again! Who’s ready for an in-depth review of all of the amazing products in Boxycharm’s October box?

I’ll readily admit that I religiously check the My Subscription Addiction page each day to see if they’ve posted any spoilers for Boxycharm’s upcoming box because I literally cannot wait to find out what I’m getting each month! Getting my Boxycharm is really one of my favorite parts of the month, and let me tell you, this box was one of my most anticipated yet because the three spoilers that were posted were killer.

For those of you that don’t know what Boxycharm is, it’s a monthly makeup and skin care subscription box (but mostly makeup) that costs $22 a month and gives you 5-6 full-sized products whose value always totals over $100. They tend to partner with more indie brands (like OFRA, which has become more mainstream recently) but have also started partnering with bigger brands such as Tarte, PUR, Colourpop, and MAC!

And this month, they included products from Dr. Brandt, Tarte, and Becca. Let’s dive right in!!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in “Prosecco Pop,” $38

This was possibly the spoiler that got me the most excited for this box, and when I opened it up and saw that I had received the pressed highlighter (the other option was the liquid highlighter) I was positively thrilled.

My sister has the Jaclyn Hill x Becca highlighting palette so I’m no stranger to this highlighter and I absolutely adore it. It has pure, golden tones and it’s pressed powder formula means that it’s incredibly buildable. I’m not one for a full glam, glazed donut look all the time, and in fact I normally don’t use highlighter on a regular basis anyways, but this highlighter is changing my makeup routine.

I dust it lightly on the tops of my cheeks, the bridge of my nose, and my upper lip with a natural haired fan brush to give me a light glow for an every day look. When I’m in the mood for something more intense, I’ll grab a synthetic haired fan brush to really build the color and give my face a pop!

Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in “Delish,” $20

At first I was a bit concerned about how dark this color looked in the tube, since colors tend to come out even darker and more brown on my lips than they look at first glance, but I actually really loved how the color looked on my lips! It’s a deep terracotta color that pulls more of a purpley-red than brown, and it looked like a beautiful, darkish nude in photos when I wore it to a football game at my Alma Mater.

I actually own a couple different colors of this lipstick (my favorite being their special edition color “Bestie” that’s the perfect nude for me in the fall and winter months) so I already knew that I liked the formula, and needless to say this one didn’t disappoint, either. It’s lightweight and dries quickly, and has fantastic staying power, holding up to the gallons of water and other beverages I had throughout the tailgate.

Unfortunately it does break down pretty quickly when it comes in contact with anything oil based, so I had to reapply it a couples time throughout the day as I was eating. After the third time I reapplied it got pretty cakey and I had to take it off, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing this for a long day, but for a 2 or 3 hour event? This will be perfect.

Jonteblu Lip Liner Pencil in “943 Brown Sugar,” $5

I’m the first to admit that I am terrible when it comes to using lip liner. Like, abhorrent. I can apply liquid lipstick like a dream but the second I try to use a lip pencil it’s like I’m back in first grade, unable to color between the lines in the coloring book.

That being said, I’m getting better, and I love the formula of this lip pencil! I’d say it’s comparable to a Kylie lip liner for sure and applies cleanly and smoothly across my lips. The color is a bit darker than the Tarte lipstick I received which I actually really liked because it allowed me to create an ombre look, which I’ve always struggled to do since I don’t own many lip liner colors. If it becomes dull you’ll have to use a makeup pencil sharpener to get it back up to form, but overall, it’s a great product!

ncLA “Nailed It” Tool Kit, $18

I’m not normally one who enjoys getting nail products in my Boxycharm because I’m not normally a nail type of gal: I’ll get my nails done for super special occasions but I’ll never do my own. However, when I opened up this product and looked inside, I was pumped.

It’s a fantastically diverse tool kit, with a nail file, nail clippers, scissors, a scooper to get all the gunk out from under your nails, and a tool for your cuticles that if I’m being completely honest I’m not quite sure how to use. I use the clippers and nail file constantly because it always drives me nuts when my nail breaks or comes close to breaking at work, so this kit is the perfect pocket companion for my work bag. I don’t go anywhere without it anymore!

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Perfect Sculpting Exfoliator, $58

Y’all. By now you should know that I’m all about high quality skincare, so when I realized that I was going to be receiving a product from Dr. Brandt? Oh man, was I stoked! I had recently purchased another gel-like exfoliator from Skinfood that I absolutely love and I was really excited to try this one out.

It works a bit differently than traditional gel exfoliators in that it’s more of a face wash than a true gel. You dampen your face, massage the gel into your skin, and then you let it sit on your skin for one to two minutes to let the product “activate” and deep clean your pores and remove any excess skin cells. It’s so powerful that you’re only supposed to use it one or two times per week, leaving at least three days in between applications. My skin has never felt so clean as it did after I used this product! I’ve started to incorporate it into my regular skin care routine and I’ve already started seeing results!

Altogether, the total value of this box was $139, and I only paid $22! The items in my Boxycharm subscription just keep getting better and better and I literally cannot wait for my next box to come in!

  2. The highlighter and lipstick make this box worth every penny! Becca highlighters are stunning, and the one in this box is no different. I really want to try that Tarte lipstick as Tarte products are some of my favorites!
